Description

Carfin, Lanarkshire born right half Bernard Breslin played for Hibernian and Scotland. He started with Carfin Shamrock and joined Hibernian in 1893, making his debut in a 2-1 Scottish Cup win at Cowdenbeath that September. Breslin was part of the Hibs teams that won the 1902 Scottish Cup Final beating Celtic 1-0 at Celtic Park (the game had been moved and delayed two weeks because of the Ibrox Disaster), which Hibernian would not win again for another 114 years, and also the Scottish League Championship in 1903.

Although he was not the quickest of players he had a reputation for vigorous tackling. He represented Scotland once, in March 1897 against Wales at The Racecourse Ground, Wrexham, in a match drawn 2-2, and he also played four times for The Scottish League between January 1898 and February 1900, scoring on his debut against The Irish League in a 5-0 win. He continued to play for Hibs until 1905-06, making his final appearance in a 2-1 home win over Kilmarnock at the end of March 1906, retiring soon thereafter after 11 goals in 261 appearances during 13 seasons with Hibernian.
