Farnham, Hampshire born winger Charlie Brittan began his football career with Marshes Hall in 1920 from where he joined Third Division (South) Newport County in 1921, making his Football League debut at Bristol Rovers in January 1922, scoring twice in a 4-3 victory. He made 6 more appearances before the season end and scored once in 17 appearances in 1922-23 but made just one FA Cup appearance in 1923-24 before leaving Somerton Park to join non league Bridgend Town in the summer of 1924.
A year later he moved to Barry, but he returned to Newport County in 1927, scoring a hat-trick in a 4-1 win against Walsall in February 1928. Having scored 6 goals in 19 matches he left Newport County in the 1928 close season to join Bath City, but once again returned to Newport in 1929. However he made no further appearances during his third spell at the club, leaving in 1930 after 9 goals in 44 first team appearances for County.
