Southwick, County Durham born wing half Jack Burnham had lost his early footballing years to the First World War, but after the conflict’s end he started playing football with Sunderland Comrades in 1919. He was signed by Southern League Brighton & Hove Albion in March 1920 and after they had joined the Third Division (South) that summer, he made his Football League debut, and only League appearance for Brighton, in a 1-0 victory at Reading that October.
He joined Queen’s Park Rangers in August 1921 and was a regular during 1921-22 playing 29 times as they finished fifth in the Third Division (South), but made just four more appearances the following season before joining Durham City in July 1923. He made 23 appearances during 1923-24 before joining Midland League Scunthorpe & Lindsey United in the 1924 close season, before returning to Durham City in July 1926, making a further 3 appearances for them in February 1927. He joined West Stanley in the 1927 close season and played for Jarrow in 1928 before his eventual retirement.
