Description

Pinxton, Derbyshire born centre half Leslie Butler began his football career as an amateur on Derby County’s books in 1930-31, acquiring the nickname “Tiny” due to his 6″2′ frame, at the time a significant height. He joined Southend United in the summer of 1931 but didn’t make their first eleven, before a move back to the East Midlands to join Third Division (North) club Mansfield Town in the 1932 close season. He made his Football League debut against Hull City in October 1932, scoring 5 goals in 47 appearances over two seasons at Field Mill, before joining non league Ollerton Colliery in the summer of 1934.
