Tillicoultry, Clackmannanshire born goalkeeper Harvey Carmichael began his football career with Tillicoultry Rovers from where he joined Clackmannan in 1904 and then played for East Stirlingshire in 1906. He signed for Second Division club Grimsby Town in December 1906, making his Football League debut against Gainsborough Trinity on Boxing Day, playing 21 times before the season end taking over the gloves from Sam Cartledge.
He made a further 19 appearances for The Mariners in their 1907-08 campaign but after he lost his place in the New Year to Walter Scott, he played only four matches in February 1908 before joining Southern League Millwall Athletic in May 1908. Carmichael stayed three seasons at The Den before a move to North Eastern League Hartlepools United in 1911, subsequently finishing his career with The Monkey Hangers before the First World War.
