Long Eaton, Derbyshire born outside left Reg Chester started his football career with Long Eaton Rangers in 1919 before joining Peterborough & Fletton United in 1920, moving again to play for Stamford Town in 1921. He joined First Division Aston Villa making his Football League debut against Manchester United in September 1925 and had 10 seasons at Villa Park without ever being more than a squad player, the most appearances he ever made in a season being 20 in 1929-30. He was however a regular goalscorer when he played, attested to by 34 goals in 97 appearances over his decade with Villa, which included a hat-trick against Huddersfield Town in April 1929.
He joined Second Division Manchester United in the 1935 close season, his goal in 13 appearances helping them win the Second Division Championship in 1935-36, but long before the title was secured he had joined First Division Huddersfield Town in December 1935 helping them to a third place finish in the League. He scored 7 goals in 25 appearances at Leeds Road but after losing his place in October 1936 joined Darlington in the 1937 close season, scoring 11 goals in 33 appearances during 1937-38 before he joined non league Arnold the following summer. He also subsequently played for Woodborough United and Grantham.
