Grays, Kent born right back Archie Clement began his football career in local Kent League football with Grays Athletic in 1923, playing for Whitstable in 1924, Dartford Town in 1925 and Chatham Town in 1926.
He was signed by newly promoted Millwall in May 1928, making his Football League debut at Port Vale that September, but he made two appearances that year but failed to establish himself. He moved to Watford in June 1930, where he made 14 appearances for The Hornets in 1930-31, from where he was signed by New Brighton in August 1931.
Clement enjoyed the most successful spell of his career on The Wirral, playing 81 matches for New Brighton over two seasons, from where he joined Yeovil & Petters United for their 1933-34 campaign.
He returned to Football League action with Southport in June 1934, making 22 appearances for The Sandgrounders during their 1934-35 campaign, before returning to Kent League football with Sittingbourne in 1935 and subsequently Canterbury Waverley in 1937, playing again for Sittingbourne in 1938 before returning to Chatham Town in 1939, his last known club before his eventual retirement.
His father Reginald Clement was an inside forward who played for Tottenham Hotspur from 1895 to 1897 playing in 9 FA Cup ties in addition to Southern League appearances. He scored the first hat-trick in an FA Cup tie for Tottenham in a match against Old St. Stephen’s in December 1896.
