Dewsbury born wing half Austin Collier started his football career with Upton Colliery in 1935, signing for Midland League Frickley Colliery in August 1937 before joining Mansfield Town in May 1938 for whom he made his Football League debut at Bristol Rovers that August. He made 26 appearances for The Stags before the outbreak of the Second World War interrupted his career, and during the War he guested for Clapton Orient, York City, Reading, Leeds United, Partick Thistle, Celtic, Third Lanark, East Fife. Aberdeen and Hibernian, as well as playing for The British Army while serving in Italy.
After the War he joined Scottish League club Queen of the South in October 1946 before returning to Football League action with Rochdale in April 1947, where he made 6 appearances before returning to Football League action with Halifax Town the same November. However he only played once for The Shaymen, against Tranmere Rovers that December before joining non league Goole Town in August 1948. He moved to Scarborough in July 1949 where he finished his playing career in 1950, becoming assistant trainer of Halifax Town from 1950 to 1955.
