Stirling born goalkeeper Jock Crawford started his football career with Fallin Violet in 1922 before joining Stenhousemuir in 1923, then moving to Alloa Athletic in 1924. He signed for First Division club Blackburn Rovers in the summer of 1925 and was initially understudy to Ronnie Sewell, making his Football League debut at Bolton Wanderers in April 1925 in Sewell’s only missed match that season.
Crawford took over the gloves from Sewell in September 1925 playing 14 straight matches but had to once again bide his time before becoming first choice in January 1927. He won the 1928 FA Cup Final with Blackburn as they beat Huddersfield Town 3-1 at Wembley, and having lost his Rovers place to Cliff Binns in March 1930 he only played 7 more matches for Blackburn, his final match a defeat at Liverpool in March 1932. By the time he returned to Scottish League football with East Stirlingshire in the 1932 closed season, where he played out the rest of his career, he had made 173 appearances for Rovers over eight seasons.
NB in the image he is shown with Blackburn Rovers teammates Bill Imrie, Jack Roacamp and Jack Bruton.
