Kirkdale, Lancashire born left back Jack Crelley came to prominence with the Liverpool schools side, and he was soon playing for hometown First Division club Everton at amateur level. He signed professional forms for Everton in 1899 and made his Football League debut against Blackburn Rovers in March 1900, making a further first team appearance at Liverpool in January 1901 before leaving Goodison Park to join Southern League club Millwall Athletic that summer. He returned to Everton in 1902 and spent five seasons regularly playing for the first eleven, playing in Everton’s 1905 FA Cup semi final team which lost 2-1 to Aston Villa in a replay at The City Ground, Nottingham.
He played 3 times during Everton’s 1906 FA Cup run including appearing in the Final at Crystal Palace when they beat Newcastle United 1-0 in front of 76,000 spectators with a goal from Sandy Young. However he lost his place in the team the following October, and he didn’t appear at all in Everton’s Cup run which saw them beaten in the 1907 Final by Sheffield Wednesday.
He made the final 3 appearances of 127 in total for Everton during 1907-08 before joining Southern League Exeter City in the 1908 close season, however, he didn’t make his Southern League debut for The Grecians until he played against Northampton Town in December 1908. He made 48 appearances for Exeter over two seasons before returning to Merseyside to join non league St Helens Recreation in 1910.
