Description

Smethwick, Staffordshire born left half Harry Crump began his football career in the early 1890’s playing for junior clubs Smethwick Centaur, West Smethwick and Wednesfield, from where he joined First Division club Wolverhampton Wanderers, making his Football League debut, and only appearance for Wolves, in a match at Blackburn Rovers in March 1895. He then joined Birmingham & District League club Hereford Thistle later the same year and had a spell with Bloxwich before signing for Southern League club Tottenham Hotspur in 1896. He scored five goals in 34 appearances for Spurs over the next two seasons before a return to Football League action with Second Division club Luton Town in the 1898 close season, where he was a regular during their 1898-99 campaign, scoring once in 30 appearances for The Hatters.

He then returned to Tottenham Hotspur in 1899 but isn’t recorded as having added to his first team outings before joining Thames Ironworks, which soon thereafter became West Ham United, from where he joined Midland League club Doncaster Rovers in 1900, spending the 1900-01 season at Belle Vue but leaving before their election to the Football League to sign for Southern League club Brentford in 1901, where he scored once in 6 appearances during 1901-02. His final recorded club is Watford, although it is uncertain as to whether he made any first team appearances for The Hornets before his eventual retirement.
