Description

Newcastle born goalkeeper Alex Davidson began his football career with Close Works after the First World War and signed for North Eastern League club Ashington in August 1920, and when Ashington became a founder member of the Third Division (North) the following summer, Davidson made his Football League debut in their inaugural League fixture against Grimsby Town in August 1921.

He shared the gloves with Billy Shepherd, playing 16 times in their debut season and 23 matches in 1922-23, however when Ernie Hoffman joined the club in 1923, Davidson lost his place that September after 5 matches and only played twice more during the rest of the season before joining North Eastern League club Workington in 1924 after 46 appearances. He subsequently joined Annfield Plain in 1925 where he finished his career.
