Swindon, Wiltshire born outside left Bertie Davies signed for hometown Southern League club Swindon Town in 1913 from West End Juniors, and made such an impression that despite only playing two matches for Swindon he was signed by First Division Middlesbrough in July 1914, making his Football League debut and only appearance for them at West Bromwich Albion the day after New Years, 1915 before the onset of the First World War, during which he served in the Armed Forces and played twice for Swindon in 1915-16, scoring twice, forced the suspension of peacetime football.
On resumption of peacetime football in 1919, Bert was back at Swindon Town having once again signed for them in May 1919, he was included in the FA Tour of South Africa at the end of the 1919-20 season, and he scored in Swindon’s inaugural Football League fixture against Luton Town in August 1920. He missed only two matches in Swindon’s 1922-23 campaign and was an ever present in 1923-24, going on to make 231 League and Cup appearances for Swindon over the next seven seasons, scoring 22 goals, in addition to his pre-War matches, before joining Luton Town in August 1927. However he only played 4 times for The Hatters in autumn 1927 before going into non league football the following year, joining Garrard Athletic, his last known club before his eventual retirement.
