Description

Cefn Mawr, North Wales, born left back Lloyd Davies began his football career with Rhosymedre St John’s in 1898 and joined Druids in 1899. He was signed by First Division club Stoke from Druids in 1903 and made his Football debut that September against Bury, scoring in a 4-1 win. He went on to play 7 times that season for The Potters, scoring twice more, however after a spell at Wellington Town he rejoined Stoke in 1905, and in 1906-07 played 26 times out of a total of 37 Stoke appearances, mostly at left back although sometimes at centre half.

However with Stoke in severe financial problems he joined Southern League Northampton Town in 1908 for £400, making 329 appearances both sides of the First World War for The Cobblers, and scoring 3 goals, before retiring in 1920. He won The Southern League Championship with Northampton Town in 1908-09 and played for The Cobblers against Football League Champions Newcastle United as Northampton were beaten 2-0 in the 1909 FA Charity Shield.

He played 16 times for Wales between February 1904, when he scored his only international goal on his debut in a 2-2 draw with England at The Racecourse Ground, Wrexham and March 1914 when his last cap was also against the English. He is (at 42) the oldest player to have played for Northampton Town and also holds the most number of international appearances for the club (twelve).

Three of his elder brothers (all Druids players among other clubs) also played for Wales, Joe (7 times), Robert (once) and Thomas (4 times).
