Description

West Stanley, County Durham born centre half Tommy Davison played forĀ Tanfield Lea Juniors and Stanley United in 1919 before joining Durham City in August 1920 and when Durham joined The Football League in 1921 Davison played in their inaugural League fixture at Southport that August. After 3 goals in 65 appearances, he joined Wolverhampton Wanderers in June 1923 but struggled to get into their first eleven, playing only 7 times as they won the Division Three (North) Championship in 1924, and after a single goal in 10 games he moved to Second Division club Derby County in July 1925, playing only once in their 1925-26 promotion season.

He got a regular berth in the Derby team from 1927 and was part of their 1929-30 team that finished runners up in the League Championship. Having fallen out of favour at The Baseball Ground he was signed by Sheffield Wednesday in February 1931 after 5 goals in 85 appearances for The Rams, but at Hillsborough he once again stayed on the fringes and made only 18 appearances before joining Third Division (South) club Coventry City in July 1932. He finished his League career with three seasons at Highfield Road where they finished 6th, 2nd (when he missed only 2 matches) and 3rd, and after 6 goals in 108 appearances joined non league Rhyl Athletic in 1935, also playing forĀ Bath City in 1936 before his eventual retirement.
