Wednesbury, Staffordshire born centre half Charlie Deacey joined Second Division West Bromwich Albion from local Wednesbury football, making his Football League debut in November 1910 but he only played twice in a season that would see them promoted as Champions. He was always a fringe player at The Hawthorns, making only 19 appearances, scoring once by the time he had joined Hull City in the summer of 1914.
He played for Hull both sides of The First World War but made the short journey to join Grimsby Town in December 1920 after 5 goals in 81 games for them. At Grimsby he scored 4 goals in 98 matches over the next two and a half seasons, before moving to Southern League club Pontypridd in 1923, his final recorded club before his eventual retirement.
