Description

Right half John Donaldson was an amateur footballer who served as a sergeant and then as a second lieutenant in The Scottish Horse Dragoons during the First World War. After the War he joined the famous amateur club Queen’s Park making his Scottish League debut at Third Lanark in September 1919, making 34 appearances for The Spiders over the first two post-war seasons, his only goals coming when he scored a brace in a 3-0 victory over Ayr United in September 1920. Having moved on business to live in London, he then played for London Caledonians in the Isthmian League (note he was probably in the team that won the FA Amateur Cup in 1923 beating Evesham Town 2-1 at The Crystal Palace, but their line-up is unconfirmed), and was probably still playing for London Caledonians when they won the Isthmian League Championship in 1924-25.
