Dundee born right half David Dorward began his football career with Dundee North End before signing for Scottish League Second Division club Dundee United in August 1928. Dorward made his debut at Bo’ness the same month and was part of The Terrors’ team that won the Second Division Championship in 1928-29, scoring once, in a defeat at Falkirk in April 1930, in 56 appearances before being signed by Second Division club Charlton Athletic in June 1930. Described as “a fast, clever half back, Dorward is a full ninety minutes’ player”, he never made the breakthrough to the first eleven at The Valley, although he was an unused reserve during 1931-32. and transferred to League of Ireland club Bray Unknowns for the 1932-33 season after which his career is uncertain.
