Description

Hucknall, Nottinghamshire born inside forward George Drury started his football career with junior clubs Hucknall Congregationalists in 1931, Hucknall Villa in 1932, Loughborough Corinthians in 1933 and Heanor Town in 1934, where he so impressed he soon joined First Division Sheffield Wednesday in September 1934. He made his Football League debut against Grimsby Town in November 1936 and moved to Highbury for £7,000 in March 1938, playing 11 times as Arsenal sealed the 1937-38 League Championship. He played both sides of the Second World War for Arsenal, during which he represented the RAF and guested for Aberdeen, Burnley, Bury, Doncaster Rovers, Liverpool, Nottingham Forest, Notts County & Sheffield Wednesday, but in October 1946 joined West Bromwich Albion after 4 goals in 42 appearances, and at the Hawthorns he scored 8 goals in 31 appearances before joining Watford for £2500 in July 1948. He scored 3 times in 36 appearances for The Hornets before joining non league Linby Colliery in the summer of 1950, subsequently playing for Darlaston and South Normanton before retiring in 1954.
