Description

Blackburn born outside right Thomas “Teddy” Duckworth made his Football League debut for Second Division Blackpool in September 1902 at Burslem Port Vale, and played 9 times during 1902-03 scoring 3 goals before joining Southern League West Ham United the following summer. However he didn’t get into the Hammers starting eleven and returned to Lancashire where he joined First Division Blackburn Rovers, making his debut in an FA Cup 3rd Round tie at Derby County in March 1904, and playing once more during 1904-05 against Sheffield Wednesday that October. He re-joined Blackpool in the 1905 close season, scoring twice in 21 games during 1905-06 before joining Lancashire Combination club Nelson in 1906.

After retiring as a player, and after serving in the Armed Forces during the First World War, Duckworth coached Swiss club Servette of Geneva between 1921 and 1929, and again briefly in 1930. He also coached the Swiss national team at the Summer Olympics in Paris in 1924, earning a silver medal when Switzerland lost 3-0 to Uruguay in the Final, and also in the 1928 Games.
