Law, South Lanarkshire born centre half Jimmy Dykes joined Heart of Midlothian in 1934 and made his Scottish League debut for The Jambos in November 1935 at Kilmarnock. His performances brought rapid recognition and he was first selected for The Scottish League against The Football League in September 1937, playing twice more for The League in 1939. He made his debut for Scotland against The Netherlands in May 1938 and won a further cap against Ireland in October 1938. He played both sides of the Second World War for Hearts, guesting during the War for Ayr United, Blackpool, Charlton Athletic, Chelsea and Glentoran, scoring 3 goals in 107 appearances for The Jambos with his last match coming in January 1946 in a Wartime League game. He then joined Irish League Dundela in 1946, moving to Portadown in 1947, joining Newry Town in 1950 before returning to Scotland to finish his career with Ross County in 1951.
