Description

Earlsfield, London born full back (he played both sides) Alf Earl started his football career in 1924 with junior club Summerstown and moved to First Division West Ham United a year later, making his Football League debut against Aston Villa on Christmas Day 1925. By August 1927 he was a regular in their first team, but he lost his place after their relegation in 1932 and only played 11 more matches in the Second Division before joining non league Streatham Town in the summer of 1933 after 206 appearances for The Hammers (he never scored). As many professionals did in the early mid 1930’s, he later went to play in the nascent French League for Sochaux.

NB in the image Earl is shown with West Ham United team mates Jimmy Collins, Stan Earle and Vic Watson.
