Description

East Boldon, County Durham born left back Martin Edwards began his football career with Darnell and played for Gateshead NER in 1902 from where he was signed by Second Division club Barnsley in the 1903 close season, making his Football League debut at Blackpool that September. A consistent first team regular at Oakwell, he scored 3 goals in 68 appearances for The Tykes before moving south to join Southern League club Crystal Palace in 1905. He had three seasons with Palace, scoring 5 goals in 71 appearances, before returning to Yorkshire to join Midland League club Doncaster Rovers in 1908, his last known club before his eventual retirement.
