Wallyford, Lothian born outside left George Forrest began his football career after the First World War with Heart of Midlothian, joining them in 1919 and making his Scottish League debut against Albion Rovers that October. He played 5 matches for Hearts before joining Alloa Athletic in 1921. In 1923 he joined the exodus of footballers to the nascent Canadian and American Soccer Leagues, playing first for Toronto Ulster United in 1923 and then for Bethlehem Steel in 1924, but was released in 1926. He returned to Canada where he briefly played again for Toronto Ulster United before, in September 1926, Bethlehem brought him back into the team for a third season.

Forrest played for Canada in their 1924 tour of Australia and New Zealand. In 6 games against The Socceroos, Forrest scored twice as the Canadians split the series at two wins a piece. A week later he played as Canada drew 1-1 with New Zealand in Auckland.

Forrest returned to the British Isles in 1928 and joined Midland League club York City, returning to Scotland to join St Bernard’s in 1929. He returned to Hearts later the same year without making their first team, before joining Raith Rovers in 1930. He spent two seasons at Stark’s Park before joining Peterhead in 1932, and a year later he signed for Second Division Plymouth Argyle, making his Football League debut at Burnley in September 1933, his only appearance of the season. He played twice more for The Pilgrims in the late autumn of 1934, but remained a fringe player at Home Park before joining Mansfield Town in 1935. However he failed to get into their first team and retired from the game soon thereafter.
