Carluke, Lanarkshire born right back Billy (also known as Willie) Frame began his football career with Overton Athletic in 1931 and played for Glasgow Shawfield from 1932, from where he signed for First Division Leicester City in October 1933, making his Football League debut at Tottenham Hotspur exactly a year later, scoring an own goal in the match. After Leicester were relegated in his debut season he became a regular in their 1935-36 line up and missed only 4 matches the following season as they won the Second Division Championship to return to the top flight, although they were relegated in 1939,
Frame’s career was then interrupted by the Second World War but he continued to play for The Foxes in wartime football, and in addition to his career total of 239 peacetime appearances for Leicester, he also featured in 22o wartime matches for them, returning to Leicester for the first four peacetime seasons after the War, although he was not included in their 1949 FA Cup Final line up, having played in a 5-5 Fifth Round tie at Luton earlier in the Cup run. He played his last match at Blackburn Rovers in January 1950 aged 37 and left the club in the 1950 close season, going on to play non league football for Rugby Town.
