Description

Brandon, County Durham born left back Tom Freeman began his football career with North Eastern League club Durham City from where he signed for First Division club Middlesbrough in 1930, making his Football League debut at West Ham United that September. A regular in the team during the first half of the season, he lost his place after a heavy defeat at Aston Villa the next January.

A regular in the side during 1931-32, Freeman again played in most of ‘Boro’s matches in the first half of 1932-33 but lost his place after Christmas that season and didn’t play again for Middlesbrough before joining Third Division (North) club Chester in the 1933 close season having made 78 appearances for Middlesbrough. At Chester he was initially a regular but lost his place in November after a heavy defeat to local rivals Tranmere Rovers, returning to the first team in January 1934 for a run of 4 matches that ended after a heavy defeat at Barrow. After 18 matches in a single season at Sealand Road he returned to North Eastern League football with Blyth Spartans, his last recorded club before his eventual retirement.
