Description

Northwich, Cheshire born right back Frank Gallimore played for hometown clubs Northwich Victoria in 1929 and Witton Albion in 1930 before joining Second Division club Preston North End in the 1931 close season, making his Football League debut against Charlton Athletic that September. He soon established himself in The Lambs’ first eleven and was the regular right back in Preston North End’s line through to the outbreak of the Second World War in September 1939, which effectively ended his career.

Gallimore was an ever present in three of his eight seasons at Deepdale, helping them to win promotion to the top flight when they finished as runners up in the Second Division in 1933-34, making 275 appearances for Preston North End. He also played in both the 1937 FA Cup Final which they lost to Sunderland at Wembley, and when they returned to Wembley in the 1938 FA Cup Final when Preston beat Huddersfield Town 1-0 after extra time. Gallimore was a member of the Preston team that won the North Regional League title in 1941, retiring before the War had ended.

His brother Len also played with him for Preston North End and his other brother Stanley played for Manchester United and Northwich Victoria.

NB In the photograph he is pictured with Preston team mate Jimmy Milne (right).
