Muirkirk, Ayrshire born inside right Allan Gebbie began his football career with Muirkirk Ex-Servicemen in 1920 and after a trial with Kilmarnock played for Muirkirk Athletic from 1922, from where he was signed by St Mirren in December 1924. He became a stalwart at Love Street, scoring 55 goals in 331 appearances for The Buddies over the next 11 years, and played inside right in St Mirren’s victorious 1926 Scottish Cup winning team when they beat Celtic 2-0 in the Final at Hampden Park in front of 98,000 spectators.
Described as “whole hearted and versatile, Gebbie has filled practically every position in the St Mirren team… of useful physique, he plays consistently week in and week out. He has a heavy shot which has beaten the best of ‘keepers from outside the penalty line”, Gebbie spent much of the 1930’s at right half for St Mirren. He transferred to Third Division (South) club Aldershot in April 1936 and made his Football League debut against Bournemouth & Boscombe Athletic that August, making 13 appearances for Aldershot into the autumn before retiring from professional football.
