Description

Reddish, Stockport born centre half Charlie Gee played junior football for Reddish Green Wesleyans in 1928 before joining hometown professional club Stockport County in 1929, for whom he made his Football League debut against Halifax Town that October. Twenty seven appearances, during which he scored twice, was enough to persuade Second Division Everton to sign him, and he scored twice (his only career goals for Everton) in 25 games during his debut season as Everton won the Second Division Championship. They followed that up with the League Championship in 1931-32 with Gee making 38 League appearances. In November 1931 he was rewarded with his first England cap in a 3-1 victory over Wales at Anfield and kept his place the following month for a 7-1 thumping of Spain at Highbury.

However he missed most of the 1932-33 season with injury including Everton’s FA Cup Final triumph, regaining his regular place in the team in the 1933-34 season when he also played in their FA Charity Shield defeat by Arsenal. His good form was rewarded with a further England cap awarded against Ireland at The Victoria Ground, Stoke, in November 1936, a season in which he missed only 2 games for Everton, but he lost his place in October 1937 and played his last game for Everton of 212 appearances in total in November 1938, retiring with the onset of World War Two.
