Description

Witton, Blackburn, Lancashire born goalkeeper Francis Gill began his senior football career on the books of hometown First Division club Blackburn Rovers, where he was understudy to Ronnie Sewell, however he never made a first team appearance for Rovers and moved to Third Division (North) club Tranmere Rovers in the summer of 1922. He made his Football League debut in a 1-0 defeat at Nelson in October 1922, and made 18 appearances for Rovers during their 1922-23 campaign, but lost his position in their first team in February 1923 when he was replaced by Harry Bradshaw. After he left Tranmere Rovers it is uncertain as to where he subsequently played.
