Description

Burton on Trent, Staffordshire born outside left Willie Gould played for junior club Sydney Star in 1902 before joining hometown Second Division club Burton United, for whom he made his debut in in an FA Cup tie against Hinckley Town in October 1903, making his Football League debut the following March at Leicester Fosse. He was a mainstay in 1904-05 but left to join Leicester Fosse in June 1905 after 9 goals in 40 appearances, but his single season at Filbert Street produced only a single goal in 6 appearances.

He then joined Southern League club Bristol Rovers in 1906 before returning to the Football League with Second Division club Glossop in May 1907. Such was his good form for The Hillmen that after only a season and a game, which produced in total 9 goals in 36 appearances, First Division club Bradford City stepped in to sign him in September 1908, and he scored twice in 19 appearances for The Bantams in 1909-09. He then transferred to Manchester City in May 1909, where he was a fringe player, scoring twice in 8 appearances before joining Lancashire Combination club Tranmere Rovers in 1912, where he played out his career.
