Cottingham, Northamptonshire born centre forward Jimmy Graham began his football career with The Corby British Legion in 1930 and played for Desborough Town in 1931 before joining Second Division Nottingham Forest in December 1932, making his Football League debut in a win at Fulham on Christmas Eve. He scored his first goal a week later in a 3-2 win over Grimsby Town and scored 12 goals in 25 appearances in his debut campaign, but with the likes of Johnny Dent and Billy Dickinson ahead of him in the pecking order he spent two seasons on the fringes of the first eleven, and by the time he joined York City in July 1935 he had scored 14 goals in 34 appearances for Forest.
His spell at Bootham Crescent was very brief, totalling 8 appearances for The Minstermen before he joined Hartlepools United in October. Despite scoring on his debut for The Monkey Hangers, he left the club just before the end of the season after 3 goals in 20 appearances, joining Southend United in May and playing for his third club of the 1935-36 season in their final game. But the following season he made only 3 more appearances for The Shrimpers, having played in their opening two fixtures he scored twice at Northampton Town on the last day of the season, before joining Clapton Orient in May 1937. He spent 1937-38 on the fringes at The O’s, scoring twice in 11 appearances, before joining non league Yeovil & Petters United, retiring from football with the onset of the Second World War.
