Outside right William Gulliland was born in Glasgow on 3rd February 1871. He played for various local teams in Glasgow before joining Queen’s Park in May 1889 and was renowned for his speed. Although this was towards the end of the club’s dominant years he still won two Scottish Cup winners’ medals in 1890 and 1893, scoring 17 goals in 47 appearances for The Spiders, and he represented Scotland four times between March 1891, when he made his international debut in a 4-3 win over Wales at The Racecourse Ground, Wrexham, and April 1895, when he played in a 3-0 defeat to England at Goodison Park. Always an amateur footballer, he was an auctioneer by trade. He died on 13th March 1928.
