West Bromwich, Staffordshire born left half George Hadley began his football career with Willenhall Swifts in 1908 and was signed by Southern League club Southampton in July 1913. He scored 4 times in 62 appearances for The Saints but his career was interrupted by the First World War, after which he was sold to First Division club Aston Villa in March 1919, Southampton having retained his registration throughout the conflict.
He made his Football League debut at Bradford Park Avenue that September but managed only 4 first team appearances for Villa, joining Second Division club Coventry City in July 1920. He had three seasons at Highfield Road and was a near ever present in 1921-22, missing only one match, but he lost his place in September 1922 after sustaining an injury that forced his retirement from the game, having scored 3 goals in 77 appearances for Coventry City.
