Description

Hetton-le-Hole, County Durham born right or centre half Jimmy Hamilton began his football career playing army football while serving with The Coldstream Guards, after being discharged he joined Second Division club Crystal Palace in 1923, making his Football League debut at Bradford City that October. Initially in and out of the first eleven, suffering relegation in his second season at The Nest in 1925, he missed only two matches of their 1927-28 campaign and continued as a first team regular until losing his place in September 1930, after which he played just 5 more matches.

Hamilton joined Hartlepools United in the summer of 1931 having scored 5 goals in 196 matches for Crystal Palace, staying two seasons at The Victoria Ground, scoring twice in 52 matches, before joining non league club City of Durham in 1933, his last known club before his eventual retirement.

NB in the photograph he stands to the right with Crystal Palace team mate Joseph Nixon.
