Stafford born left half George Heinemann began his football career with Stafford Rangers in 1927, from where he was signed by First Division Manchester City in 1928, making his Football League debut against Derby County in February 1929. He made 18 first team appearances in 1929-30 but returned to the fringes in 1930-31, before joining Third Division (South) Coventry City in the 1931 close season after 24 appearances for The Citizens. At Highfield Road he missed only three matches in his first season but lost his place in December 1932 and again found himself on the fringes, playing only twice in 1933-34 as Coventry finished runners up in the League, narrowly missing out on promotion,  before joining Crystal Palace that summer after a single goal, in a 5-5 draw with Fulham in January 1932, in 58 appearances for Coventry.
He had a single season at Crystal Palace, making 29 appearances before a move to Clapton Orient in the summer of 1935. In his first season he missed only one match for The O’s, and was again a regular in 1936-37, scoring his second and last career goal in a 3-2 win over Reading in September 1936. But he’d played his last match of 97 appearances for Orient by the end of 1937, and joined non league Wellington Town in the 1938 close season before his eventual retirement.
NB in the photograph he is shown with team mates Fred Tilson, Ernie Toseland and Bobby Marshall.
