Description

Goldenhill, Staffordshire born inside right Sam Higginson joined Goldenhill Wanderers in 1898 from where he signed for First Division club Stoke in the 1899 close season, making his Football League debut against Liverpool that September. He scored 23 goals in 122 appearances over the next five seasons for The Potters before joining Southern League club Reading in 1904, spending two years at Elm Park before signing for Second Division club Bradford City in the summer of 1906.

He made 35 appearances, scoring 5 goals during 1907-08 as Bradford City won the Second Division Championship, but on their promotion to the First Division fell out of favour and only made just 2 further appearances in the top flight, in all he played 58 matches for The Bantams through to 1909, scoring 6 times, before retiring from the professional game.
