Sunderland born right back James Hindson began his football career with Hylton Colliery and spent 1928-29 on the books of hometown First Division club Sunderland, without making their first eleven. He returned to North East League football with Spennymoor United in 1929 before spending 1930-31 on the books of Middlesbrough, again he didn’t make the first eleven at Ayresome Park. In 1931 Hindson joined Third Division (South) club Fulham making his debut in an FA Cup tie against Watford  in January 1932 and his Football League debut against Gillingham two days later, playing 6 League matches as The Cottagers won the Third Division (South) Championship. He came into the team on a regular basis the following January but lost his regular place in April 1936 and only played 9 matches in his final two seasons at Craven Cottage, leaving in 1938 after 113 matches for Fulham. His career thereafter is uncertain.
NB the photograph was taken in their FA Cup tie at Griffin Park on 8th January 1938, James Hindson looks on as Brentford’s Bobby Reid dives past Fulham goalkeeper Hugh Turner. Fulham lost the match 3-1 and this was Hindson’s final match for Fulham.
