Wombwell, Barnsley, Yorkshire born right back Charlie Howson had the briefest of Football League careers. He had joined Rotherham Town after the First World War also played for hometown club Wombwell joining them in the 1921 close season, before joining Third Division (North) club Nelson as a trialist in May 1922, making a single Football League appearance against Ashington on 7th October 1922, however he was subsequently not retained. The following month he had a trial at Second Division Port Vale, but again wasn’t taken on, after which he joined Midland League club Mansfield Town in December that year. He made two appearances for The Stags during their 1922-23 campaign before finishing his football career.
