Ruabon, Denbighshire born left half Teddy Hughes joined Merseyside junior club Formby in 1894 from where he joined First Division club Everton, making his Football League debut at Notts County in December 1898, making 8 appearances for The Toffees during the rest of 1898-99.
He joined Southern League club Tottenham Hotspur in the summer of 1899, staying nine years at Spurs, where he was a member of their 1899-1900 Southern League Championship team and more famously their triumphant 1901 FA Cup winning side which overcame Sheffield United in the Final, Spurs winning the replay at Burnden Park by 3 goals to 1 after a 2-2 draw at The Crystal Palace, the only time a team from outside The Football League has won the FA Cup since the League’s formation.
He won 14 caps for Wales between March 1899 when he made his debut against Ireland and his final cap won against England in March 1907, and after 11 goals in 183 appearances for Spurs he finished his career by joining Scottish League club Clyde in 1909, his last known club before his eventual retirement.
