Description

Bolton, Lancashire born right half or centre half Billy Humphreys began his football career with Chorley, from where he signed for First Division club Bury in May 1905, making his Football League debut at Notts County the same November. He spent the first three seasons of his career at Gigg Lane on the fringes of first team action but broke through into the first team on a regular basis from March 1908, and he stayed with the club after its relegation to the Second Division in 1912, scoring his only career goal the next season in a win over Nottingham Forest in April 1913.

His career with Bury continued until the onset of the First World War forced the suspension of peacetime football in May 1915, by when he had made 258 appearances for The Shakers over ten seasons, and after the War he joined Lancashire Combination club Barrow in 1919 but had retired by the time they joined The Football League in 1921.
