Description

Newcastle born centre half Wilf Innerd played junior football for Wallsend Park Villa in 1899 before joining hometown First Division club Newcastle United in May 1900, making his Football League debut at Liverpool in March 1901. also playing four weeks later against Bury at St James’ Park. He then had to wait four years for his next (and final) appearance for The Magpies’ first eleven, playing in a defeat at Blackburn Rovers in April 1905.

He joined Southern League club Crystal Palace in the summer of 1905, where he became club captain and where he was described as “one of the most efficient half backs in the Southern League”. Indeed he captained the club during their shock FA Cup win over former club Newcastle in 1907. scoring 7 goals in 133 appearances over the next four  years until he was badly injured in a January 1909 FA Cup tie against Wolverhampton Wanderers which curtailed his Palace career, before returning to the north east to join non league Shildon Athletic later in 1909, his last known club before his eventual retirement.
