Description

Spennymoor, County Durham born right back Richard Jackson began his football career with Crook Town from where he joined Second Division Rotherham County in the 1922 close season, making his Football League debut at Leicester City that August, scoring his only career goal in a 2-0 win over Coventry City that November. Although County were relegated at the end of the season, Jackson stayed at Millmoor, and missed only one match in 1923-34 as they finished fourth in the Third Division (North).

When Rotherham County merged with local rivals Rotherham Town to become Rotherham United in 1925, Jackson continued as their first choice right back, missing very few games, eventually losing his place in February 1932 after having made 365 appearances for The Millers over ten seasons at the club. In August 1932 he moved to Gillingham and played two seasons at Priestfield, making 70 appearances for The Gills before joining non league Canterbury Waverley in the summer of 1934 ahead of his eventual retirement.
