Description

Cinderhill, Nottinghamshire born centre half Bill Jennings joined Second Division club Notts County in 1913 from local club Arnold St Mary’s, making his Football League debut at Clapton Orient that October, playing 20 times as The Magpies won the Second Division Championship. The onset of the First World War in May 1915 which forced the suspension of peacetime football cut short his Notts County career, Jennings having made 43 appearances.

After the War’s conclusion he joined Southern League club Norwich City in 1919 before joining newly elected Third Division (South) club Merthyr Town, missing only one match in their inaugural Football League season as well as playing against Crystal Palace in their inaugural fixture.

He scored 3 goals in 70 appearances for Merthyr over his two seasons in Wales before joining Luton Town in the summer of 1922. He scored twice in 117 matches for The Hatters, but lost his place in December 1925 and moved to Northampton Town the following summer.

However he only managed 3 appearances for The Cobblers in the autumn of 1926 before moving to non league Peterborough & Fletton United. He was the older brother of Sam Jennings who played with him at Norwich City and played for numerous other clubs.
