Description

Stenhousemuir, Stirlingshire born right half Tommy Godfrey was a much travelled footballer who started his career with Dunipace Juniors and joined Scottish First Division club Falkirk in 1922. He had a brief spell with Stenhousemuir in 1923 before returning to Falkirk, playing for Bo’ness and Clackmannan in 1924 before moving to join Forfar Athletic in 1925. Having re-joined Stenhousemuir in 1927, he made the move south of the border later the same year, signing for Second Division Stoke City in October 1927.

Godfrey made his Football League debut against Hull City that December but was always a fringe player during his three seasons at The Victoria Ground, making 10 first team appearances before joining Walsall in June 1930. A regular in Walsall’s team that finished 17th in the Third Division (South) during his single season at Fellows Park, he scored twice in 42 appearances for The Saddlers but moved on to Swindon Town in June 1931. He missed only one game for The Robins in 1931-32 but lost his place in Swindon’s team the following September, playing only 8 times during 1932-33 before leaving The County Ground to join non league Folkestone after 50 appearances. He finished his career by joining Worcester City in 1934.
