Description

Coatbridge, Lanarkshire born left back John Kelly began his football career with Coatbridge Guild and Pollock, from where he signed for Greenwich Morton but returned to the junior ranks with Coatbridge St Patricks. In 1941 he signed for Third Lanark and after the end of the Second World War he was given a cap for The Scottish League when he played in a 3-1 defeat to The Football League at Hampden Park in March 1947. Described as a “stalwart defender”, Kelly scored once in 74 matches for Third Lanark through to 1950 and his career thereafter is uncertain.
