Aberdare, Glamorgan born right half Reg John began his football career after the First World War playing with hometown club Aberdare Athletic in 1919 before he joined newly elected Third Division club Queen’s Park Rangers in 1920, making his Football League debut at Southampton that November, one of only two matches John played in Rangers’ debut League season. He broke into the first team on a more regular basis from late March 1922 and remained a regular for four further seasons, during which Rangers struggled, before joining Charlton Athletic in the 1926 close season after a single goal, scored in a 2-0 win at Bournemouth in April 1925, in 145 appearances.
However he made only 8 appearances for The Addicks during a single season at The Valley before joining non league Folkestone in 1927, where he later finished his career.
NB although the photograph was published while at Queens Park Rangers, it appears to show him in Army fatigues and was probably taken some years before.
