Description

Birmingham born inside forward Harry Johnson was a former junior international who came to prominence playing for the British Army, and joined Second Division Coventry City in September 1919, soon after the end of First World War, making his Football League debut for them against Leeds City the same month and playing a second and final first team match for them three days later at Birmingham.

He joined non league Darlaston on loan in 1921 but returned to League football in the summer of 1921 when he joined Southampton on a free transfer, whom he helped win the Division Three (South) Championship in his first season, scoring twice in his second match for The Saints in an 8-0 thrashing of Northampton Town on Christmas Eve 1921.

He scored 9 goals in 40 appearances for The Saints before moving to Queen’s Park Rangers in February 1924, going on to score 15 times in 55 matches for Rangers, including 10 goals in their 1924-25 campaign that saw him as their leading goalscorer for the season. In his three seasons at Loftus Road, Rangers struggled at the foot of the Third Division table, and he left to return to the Midlands in 1926, joining non league Cradley Heath.
