Penycae, Wrexham born left back Tom Jones began his football career with Rhosymedre in 1919, playing for junior clubs Acrefair, Druids, and in 1922 Birmingham & District League side Oswestry Town, from where he was signed by Second Division club Manchester United in 1924, making his Football League debut at Portsmouth that November, helping United to gain promotion that season as Second Division runners up.
Jones won his first cap for Wales in a 3-0 defeat to Ireland in October 1925. He won further caps against Ireland and England the following year before winning his fourth and final cap against Ireland in 1930. Although only playing more than 30 matches twice in the twelve seasons he stayed at Old Trafford, he notched up exactly 200 appearances for The Red Devils without ever scoring, before joining Midland League club Scunthorpe & Lindsey United in 1937, his final club before his eventual retirement.
