Description

Plymouth, Devon born right half Cyril King played for Devon Schools and started his football career with Plymouth United. He joined Second Division club Southampton as a trainee in November 1932, signing as a professional the following April, making his Football League debut at Newcastle United in December 1934 as a replacement for Stan Woodhouse. Never assured of a regular place in a struggling Southampton team, King scored twice in 97 matches for The Saints through to the summer of 1939, and during his five seasons at The Dell they never finished better than fifteenth.

He joined Darlington that summer but had not played for The Quakers when the Second World War broke out in early September. The War effectively ended his career although he played wartime football for Plymouth Argyle. During the War he joined the Royal Air Force serving in North Africa, and the Burma Campaign as a Sergeant.
